Rarely do I find myself in a position to take a day off, but luckily, I have been working out of South Florida all summer and Key West is only a short three-hour tour from Miami. There are no real plans - just to hang around, take in the nice sun, though I'm already burned, and enjoy the scenery.

So, in a usual photographers fashion, I woke up at 5:30 a.m. today to scout a location to shoot the sunrise. I ended up going to two places. The White St. Pier, near the HIV memorial, and a small beach on the South side of the island. The difficult part about shooting the sunrise on the limited beaches in Key West is that the sun rises in the East - so almost all of your shots from the shoreline will be shooting back onto the island.

Even if a photo wasn't made, it was a great feeling to be up at 5:30 a.m. hanging out with a few locals who all meet each morning by bike with coffee to watch the sunrise.

This will certainly not be my last trip to Key West, Fla.

My Best,

- Steve
